Celebrate DSP Recognition Week September 7–13, 2025

Updated: 3 days ago

Four smiling women in a garden celebrate DSP Recognition Week. Text reads "September 7–13, 2025, Northwest Mental Health Management Services."

Every year, the second week of September shines a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who serve at the frontline of compassionate care. From September 7–13, 2025, we join organizations nationwide—including: DSP Connections, Inc. >>> ANCOR (American Network of Community Options and Resources) UCP Oregon >>> L’Arche Portland >>> in recognizing and celebrating Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).

These everyday heroes enrich lives, foster inclusion, and empower individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities to thrive. Whether it’s helping someone gain independence, navigate daily challenges, or feel connected to their community, DSPs are the foundation of a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Why It Matters to NWMH

At Northwest Mental Health Management Services, our DSPs are the heart and soul of our mission.

  • They stand beside individuals as advocates and allies, ensuring dignity and choice are never compromised.

  • They bring patience, creativity, and resilience to complex situations, often going above and beyond what’s expected.

  • They create opportunities for connection—helping those we serve feel part of something bigger than themselves.

Their work is not just a job—it’s a calling. For families, DSPs offer peace of mind; for individuals, they open doors to purpose and possibility. This week is our opportunity to pause, uplift, and say “thank you” in meaningful ways.

How We Can Celebrate DSPs

Recognition can take many forms, and often it’s the small, heartfelt gestures that mean the most. Here are some of the ways we’ll be celebrating—and ideas you can join in on too:

1. Personal Thank-Yous

Handwritten notes from leadership, peers, or the individuals supported can make a profound impact. A simple “we see you, and you matter” is powerful.

2. Team Celebrations

From a catered lunch to a casual potluck, creating space for DSPs to connect, relax, and feel celebrated is a meaningful way to honor their daily efforts.

3. Spotlight Stories

Sharing DSP stories on social media, newsletters, or internal bulletins not only uplifts those being recognized but also educates the wider community on the vital role they play.

4. Professional Development Opportunities

Recognition also means investing in the future. Offering access to training, mentorship, or career growth pathways demonstrates our commitment to supporting DSPs in the same way they support others.

5. Community Shout-Outs

We encourage families, individuals, and community partners to join us this week in expressing gratitude. Tag us on social media with your thank-you messages using hashtags like #DSPRW2025 or #DSPHeroes. A Message of Gratitude

To all of our DSPs: Thank you. Your compassion, professionalism, and humanity make a world of difference each and every day. You embody the values of Northwest Mental Health Management Services, and this week—and every week—we are proud to stand alongside you.
