Celebrate Kindness on November 13 with Us

Every year on November 13, the world pauses to celebrate World Kindness Day — a day born from the World Kindness Movement in 1998 to spotlight simple acts of goodwill and the deeply human power of compassion. At Northwest Mental Health Management Services, our mission is rooted in connection, understanding, and care — and kindness is at the heart of what we do. On this special day, we invite our community of clients, staff, family members and friends to reflect on how an act of kindness — no matter how small — can strengthen mental health, foster belonging, and support well-being.

Why Kindness Matters in Mental Health

  • Kindness fosters connection, which reduces isolation and strengthens relationships — key protective factors in mental well-being.

  • When kindness becomes a habit in our workplace and community, we create an environment of respect and safety where people feel valued and heard.

  • Celebrating kindness reminds each of us that our actions matter — that compassion is not just a nice idea, but a health-promoting one.

Ways to Participate in Our Local Community (Clackamas & Oregon City area)

Here are some meaningful ways you can join in on November 13 — or make kindness part of your week — in and around Oregon City and Clackamas County:

  • Volunteer with local organizations. For example, the Gleaners Community Food Bank – Clackamas County invites individuals to volunteer roles that match their skills and interests. Gleaners Website

  • Explore the volunteer opportunities listed by the City of Oregon City including at the Ermatinger House historic site or the Pioneer Community Center.

  • Simply reach out to someone: write a thank-you note to a colleague at Northwest Mental Health Management Services, call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while, or invite someone to walk with you in a local park.

  • Spread kindness at your workplace. Use an idea from the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation: invite team members to share one kind act they committed that day and what it meant.

  • Offer your help in daily life: hold the door, buy someone a coffee, pick up litter on your trail walk, or simply smile and connect in waiting rooms or community spaces.

  • Share your story! Post a photo or comment on social media with #WKD or #WorldKindnessDay and tag Northwest Mental Health Management Services let’s amplify kindness together.

Let’s Make it Count

This November 13, let’s believe in the ripple effect that kindness creates. At Northwest Mental Health Management Services, we know that when one person belts out a compliment, offers a moment of support, or simply shows up with kindness, the impact echoes. Let’s honor World Kindness Day by doing — and being — kind.

Thank you for being part of our caring community.

Let’s choose kindness.
